After the amazing diving we had done in Ko Lanta, we were keen to get in the water again. We’d read that the Similan Islands off the west coast of Thailand were in the top ten dive sites in the world, so they must be worth a trip. The islands are a good four hours out from Khoa Lak on the west coast, so the best way to dive is to do a liveaboard (literally a boat that you live on for a few days while you dive).
We got to Khoa Lak a day earlier than planned due to the disappointment that was Phuket. Khoa Lak was the area of Thailand worse hit by the tsunami in 2004, with 4000 people losing their lives and the town suffering colossal damage.
